Why Do We Verify Age?

We understand that sharing personal information can feel intrusive, and we aim to make this process as straightforward as possible. Age verification is a legal measure in place to protect minors, enforced by the following UK bodies:

  • Department of Health & Social Care
    Since October 2015, it has been illegal for adults to buy tobacco products or e-cigarettes for anyone under 18.

  • Trading Standards
    Retailers are responsible for ensuring that age-restricted products aren’t sold to minors online.

How We Verify Your Age

To verify your age, we use 1account, a trusted third-party service. This system checks data from reliable sources, such as credit records, mobile phone numbers, the UK electoral roll, and the UK birth register, to confirm that you are 18 or older. In most cases, age verification is instant, allowing us to process your order quickly.

What Do You Need to Do?

After you place your order, a pop-up window will appear on the confirmation page, prompting you to complete the age verification process. Please follow the on-screen instructions.

Information We Require

To verify your age, we will need your full name, current address, and mobile phone number when you place your first order with us. Your billing address will serve as your primary address, so please make sure it’s up-to-date. In some cases, we may also request your date of birth to assist with verification.

What If Age Verification Fails?

If 1account cannot verify your age, we may ask you to email a photo of an official ID along with a selfie to our support team at info@thecloudcellar.co.uk, along with your order number. A team member will review your details, and during business hours, this process usually takes no longer than a couple of hours. Please be aware that verification requests received during evenings or weekends may take a bit longer.

We do not store copies of any ID provided for verification.

If we’re unable to verify your age, we will cancel and fully refund your order.

Will This Affect My Credit Score?

If you use a credit monitoring service, you may see a notification that a “soft check” has been conducted on your credit record. Rest assured, this check does not impact your credit score in any way.
